The Griffs’ swimming and diving team took on Niagara at the Kiernan Center in Lewiston last Saturday.
The men’s team defeated the Purple Eagles, 192-102, and the women’s team came out on top by a score of 169-130.
The women’s diving team performed especially well. Gianna Cornelia got her first sweep of the year, posting top honors in the 1-meter with a score of 224.33 and posting a 230.62 from the 3-meter. Vinnie Costanzo placed second in both the 100- and 300-meter events, scoring 216.00 and 222.75 respectively. Vivian Mroz placed third in the 300-meter, rounding out the top three scores in that category.
The women’s swimming team started the day off by placing second in the 200-yard relay medley. Sage Pollack finished first in the 50-yard freestyle and Kelsey Childress placed second in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle races. Senior Cassie Brousseau placed first in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke races. Alexis Agee placed first in her 200-yard freestyle race, while Ashlynn Gilfillan took home the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle.
On the men’s side, Kenyon Winkky, Kyle Griffin, Lucas Kennedy, and Kyle Kimerer started off the day by winning the 200-yard medley relay. Kennedy also had success in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke races. Winkky earned top honors in the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard butterfly.
James Pokornowski earned top honors in the 1000-yard free race, while Liam O’Connell finished first in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle races.
For the men’s diving team, Brett Palo received top scores on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards, and senior Joe Egloff placed second on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards.
The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will meet Gannon University for Senior Day at the Burt Flickinger Center tomorrow at 3 p.m.
