In the second meet of the spring portion of the season, Matt Genaway finished tied for 15th place in last weekend’s Navy Spring Invitational in Annapolis, Md.

The freshman shot a 1-over-par 72 in the first round on Saturday before backtracking with an 11-over-par 83. It was the second straight tournament the freshman had carded a 72. He closed out the Florida Atlantic Tournament on March 25 with an even-par 72.

George Washington’s Jack Porcelli was the best individual golfer, shooting a 5-over-par 147 over the two-day event.

Porcelli and George Washington crawled back from ending Saturday’s round in third place to claim the tournament title.

Canisius, who was tied for seventh place with St. Francis (Pa.) after Saturday’s round, finished with an overall team score of 642, ending in 10th place.

John Dantonio was the second-best finisher for the Griffs, tying for 24th place with a score of 157. The junior shot a 7-over-par 78 in the final round.

Canisius returns to the links today at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. for the MAAC Tournament. The tournament begins today and will conclude Sunday.

In last year’s conference tournament, the Griffs finished in eighth place amongst the nine-team tournament. Saint Peter’s was the tournament champion for the third time in the last four years, edging Siena by three strokes.

David Hanes finished third overall in his first-ever MAAC Tournament last year. He ended the tournament with a 6-over-par 222.
