Freshman David Hanes shot an even-par 72 on the final day of the MAAC Golf Championships in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. to finish third at the annual conference tournament held at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course.

Hanes tied the best shot total out of the five Canisius representatives with his even-par 72. It was the best score for the freshman since shooting a 4-under-par 68 at the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational this past fall. It was the first tournament Hanes participated in since the Coca-Cola Lehigh Valley Invite earlier this month.

The Griffs were the second-best shooting team in the final round of the MAAC Tournament shooting an overall 298. Saint Peter’s, the eventual champion, was the only team to card a better score (295).

Sophomore John Dantonio also shot an even-par 72 on Sunday. He tied for 22nd place. Junior transfer Mark Lesinski shot a 2-over-par 74, closing his first trip at the MAAC Tournament tied for 33rd.

As a team, Canisius finished eighth out of nine schools.

Upon the conclusion of the tournament, the MAAC announced 18 golfers were named to the All-MAAC Academic Team. Dantonio and senior Cory Cullen were the only two members representing Canisius. Both Dantonio and Cullen maintained at least a 3.2 GPA over the past two semesters.
