Ryan Holmes ‘18 in stable condition after fatal car accident

A member of the Canisius College community was involved in a fatal car accident Sunday, April 9 at approximately 5:15 a.m. The event occurred on Route 219 near Lindberg Road outside of Ellicottville, confirmed Capt. Shawn Gregory of the Cattaraugus County Sheriff Department.

Ryan M. Holmes ’18, a Henrietta native, was driving southbound in his pickup truck when he crossed the center line and collided head-on with the truck of 90-year-old Charles West of Niagara Falls. West was pronounced dead at the scene, while Holmes was transported by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center. Holmes suffered non-life threatening injuries and remains in stable condition.

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff Dept. is investigating the accident at this time, and no conclusions have been publicized. The Griffin will continue to follow this story and provide updates as they are released.
