The women’s lacrosse team traveled to Riverdale, N.Y. over the weekend and
picked up a 15-5 victory against the Manhattan Jaspers.
In their first MAAC contest of the year, the Griffs looked sharp right out of the
gate. Canisius held a 4-2 lead early in the first half before scoring an impressive six
straight goals to extend their lead to 10-2. Manhattan would come back with two
goals of their own before the end of the half.
Coming out of the intermission, the Griffins continued their offensive aggressiveness,
going on a 4-0 run to stretch their advantage to 14-4. Canisius and Manhattan
would each go on to trade goals before time expired.
Junior midfielder Erica Evans led the team with four goals and three assists
while sophomore attack Jourdan Roemer tied her career-high of six points, tallying
three goals and three assists.
“After nearly two weeks off it was nice to see the team come out and give
such a strong performance,” Head Coach Scott Teeter told the media after the
victory. “This was a good way to break into MAAC play and something that will
hopefully set us up well for the rest of the year.”
The team has a busy week ahead of them, as the Griffs will host Iona on
Saturday, April 1 at 11:00 AM and will welcome Siena to the Demske at 4:00 p.m.
on Wednesday, April 5 in back-to-back conference matchups.
