16 years of synchronization: Griffs capture 16th consecutive ECAC Championships

By Kyle Ferrara, Sports Reporter

The Canisius College synchronized swimming team won the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships on Sunday, syncing themselves up with the last 15 teams to come before them.

The Griffs scored 100 points en route to the first place finish at the event held at the Scheerr Pool at the University of Pennsylvania. They swept every category.

“I’m very proud of my team. They rose to the occasion and put up their best swims so far this year,” said head coach Jill Wright. “We are heading into nationals undefeated and I’m excited to see them dig deep and fight for a top spot.”

The Griffs are indeed headed towards nationals. They conclude the 2013 season at the U.S. Collegiate National Championships on March 20-21 in Stanford, Ca.

Coach Wright is in her seventh year with the program, and of course has been a champion each year. Wright is an alumnus of Canisius. She graduated in 2003 and was an All-American swimmer in her time here. As a swimmer, she led the team to four championships as a four-time champion soloist. Last weekend’s championship brings her career total to 11.
